💎 住宅×ヘルスケアという新しい挑戦
田辺さんがいま最も力を注いでいるのが、「住宅×ヘルスケア」の新規事業だ。
住宅の中にセンサーを組み込み、心拍や体温、尿などの生体データを非接触で取得。AIがそれを解析して日常的なアドバイスをしてくれる。住むこと自体が健康につながる“パーソナルドクターのような家”を目指している。
「AIの技術はかなり発展していますが、住宅にはまだ入り込めていないと感じています。日本の建築技術の強さとソフトウェアを掛け合わせれば、新しい展開が生まれると思ったんです。」
💎 発想の原点は「医工学の学び」と「母の病」
この構想の背景には、二つの原体験がある。
一つは大学時代に選んだ「医工学」だ。工学や機械が好きだった田辺さんは、それを社会的意義のある分野で活かしたいと考え、医学と工学を融合する医工学に進んだ。
そしてもう一つは、母がリウマチを患った経験である。発症後は強い薬による対処療法しかなく、副作用で苦しむ姿を見てきた。
「症状が出てから病院に行くのでは遅い。日常の生活の中で異常を早く察知できれば、もっと予防医学が進むはず。」
母の姿と自らの専門分野が重なり、住宅×ヘルスケアという構想につながっていった。
💎 医療現場で培った「現場理解力」
新卒で入社した会社では、医療機器の開発を担当。大学で医学知識を学んでいたことから、医療現場に足を運び、医師の仕事を観察する機会が多かった。
「実際の現場とプロジェクトの想定は乖離していることが少なくない。そこで“本当に必要なのは何か”を見つけ報告する、言わばHUBのような役割を担ってきました。」
この「現場を理解する姿勢」は、今のAI開発やコンサルティングにも通じている。
💎 最下位評価からの出発
とはいえ、新卒時代は決して順風満帆ではなかった。数百人の同期の中で、田辺さんの評価は「最下位」だった。
「正直、当時は苦しかったです。現場で感じた課題を提案しても、上司からすれば“余計なことを言うな”と見られてしまった。コスト面も考えずに発言していたので、扱いにくい存在だったと思います。」
しかし、この経験が大きな転機となった。
「最下位評価で悔しかった。でもその中で“現場を見て本質を考える姿勢”を身につけられたんです。今となっては、あの評価が原点です。」
苦い経験を糧にしたからこそ、今の強みが形づくられている。
💎 「テックアルティスト」という名に込めた想い
2023年に設立した会社の名前は「TechArtist（テックアルティスト）」。
「技術を使って自己表現し、社会をより良くしていく集団でありたい」という思いを込めた。アートのように個性を反映させつつ、テクノロジーで人や社会に役立つ仕組みを創りたい──そんな願いが込められている。
💎 個人向けだからこそ生まれるイノベーション
AIの受託開発やコンサルは企業向けも多いが、田辺さんが本来やりたいのは個人向けだという。住宅×ヘルスケアもその一つだ。
「企業案件は安定しますが、どうしても要望に沿う形になりやすい。個人向けの場合はこちらの想いを反映でき、“そんな発想があるのか”と共感してもらえる瞬間があります。そこからイノベーションが生まれるんです。」
💎 アメリカで挑んだ「脳波デバイス」
半年間アメリカに滞在して起業し、耳から脳波を測定するデバイスの開発に挑戦した。集中力や睡眠の深さを測り、生活を改善することを目指したが、FDA（アメリカ食品医薬品局）認証に必要な「9割以上の正確性」を実証できず、資金調達も難航。断念を余儀なくされた。
「悔しい経験でしたが、海外で挑戦したからこそ得られた学びも多かった。いつかまた挑戦したいテーマのひとつです。」
💎 失敗から学んだ「行動すること」の大切さ
振り返れば、社会人になるまで田辺さんは「言われたことをこなす」生き方が多かったという。
「失敗することを恐れてあまり行動してこなかった。だからこそ、子どもたちには“もっと失敗していいよ”と伝えたい。失敗は自分で考えて行動した証拠です。」
自身が小学生に授業をするなら、そう伝えたいと語る。
💎 映画のタイトルは「自由意志と真の自由の探求」
田辺さんの半生を映画にするなら、このタイトルを選ぶ。
「会社員時代、自分は自由に生きていると思っていましたが、実際は錯覚でした。うまくいかなかった経験を経て、本当の意味で“自分の意志”で選択する自由を体感できるようになったんです。」
戦略や技術を語るときでも、最後に立ち返るのは「人の意志」と「自由」。田辺悠介さんの歩みは、テクノロジーを通じて人がより自由に生きられる社会を追求する物語だ。

🔹 A New Challenge: Housing × Healthcare
Yusuke Tanabe’s latest focus is a groundbreaking project that combines housing with healthcare.
By embedding sensors into the home, vital data such as heart rate, body temperature, and even urine composition can be collected non-invasively. AI then analyzes the data and provides daily advice, creating a “personal doctor in your home” where simply living promotes better health.
“AI has advanced tremendously, but it still hasn’t entered the realm of housing. I believe that by combining Japan’s strength in construction with software, we can create something entirely new.”
🔹 The Roots: Biomedical Engineering and His Mother’s Illness
This idea stems from two formative experiences.
The first was his decision to major in biomedical engineering at university. Passionate about engineering and machinery, Tanabe wanted to apply his skills to a socially meaningful field. Biomedical engineering—blending medicine and engineering—was the answer.
The second was deeply personal: his mother’s battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Once symptoms appeared, only strong medication was available, leaving her to suffer from side effects such as hair loss.
“It struck me that waiting until symptoms appear is too late. If abnormalities can be detected earlier, preventive medicine could advance so much further.”
His mother’s struggles, combined with his academic background, led him toward the vision of housing × healthcare.
🔹 Learning to Understand the Field, Not Just the Theory
Tanabe began his career developing medical devices. Because of his medical knowledge from university, he was often sent directly into hospitals to observe doctors at work.
“What I found was that real-world practices and project assumptions often diverged. My role became identifying what was truly necessary and reporting back—a kind of hub between the lab and the field.”
This habit of grounding technology in reality continues to shape his approach to AI development and consulting today.
🔹 Starting from the Bottom: A Painful but Crucial Lesson
His early career was far from smooth. Among hundreds of new hires, Tanabe ranked at the very bottom.
“To be honest, it was tough. I kept pointing out issues I noticed in the field, but to my superiors it sounded like unnecessary complaints. I wasn’t considering costs, so I was seen as difficult.”
Yet this struggle became his turning point.
“Being rated last was humiliating, but it forced me to develop the ability to look at the field and think about the essence of the problem. That evaluation became my foundation.”
What once was a bitter experience has become the bedrock of his current strengths.
🔹 Why “TechArtist”?
In 2023, Tanabe founded TechArtist Inc. The name embodies his vision:
“I want us to be a group that uses technology as a means of self-expression while creating systems that make society better. Like art, our work should reflect individuality, but through technology it must serve people and communities.”
🔹 Innovation Emerges When Serving Individuals
While much of his AI consulting is for corporations, Tanabe’s real passion lies in solutions for individuals—housing × healthcare being one example.
“Corporate projects are stable, but they inevitably bend toward client demands. With individuals, I can infuse my own vision. When someone says, ‘I never thought of it that way,’ that’s the spark of innovation.”
🔹 The Challenge of a Brainwave Device in the U.S.
Tanabe once spent six months in the U.S., launching a startup that developed an ear-worn device to measure brainwaves. The goal was to track focus and sleep quality to improve daily life.
However, the device couldn’t achieve the 90% accuracy required for FDA approval, making fundraising impossible. The project had to be abandoned.
“It was a frustrating experience, but also invaluable. Because I tried overseas, I gained insights I couldn’t have gotten otherwise. It’s still a theme I’d like to revisit one day.”
🔹 The Value of Failure: Learning Through Action
Looking back, Tanabe admits that until his early career, he mostly just “did what he was told.”
“I avoided failure by avoiding action. But that meant I wasn’t really thinking or acting on my own. That’s why I tell children today: fail more. Failure is proof that you tried, thought, and acted.”
If he could give a single lesson to elementary school students, it would be exactly that.

Asked to title a film of his life, Tanabe doesn’t hesitate: The Pursuit of Free Will and True Freedom.
“As a company employee, I thought I was living freely, but it was an illusion. Only after experiencing setbacks did I understand what it means to truly make choices by my own will.”
Whether speaking about technology or strategy, Tanabe always returns to one theme: human will and freedom. His journey is the story of pursuing a society where technology helps people live more freely.
